HM Coastguard jumps into action after paddleboard pair drift

A TIME-CRITICAL emergency response was triggered off the coast of Margate on Sunday evening after two young males on a single paddleboard were spotted drifting out to sea.

A local fishing vessel raised the alarm with HM Coastguard at around 6.15pm on Sunday, May 31, after spotting the pair stranded nearly a mile offshore, east of the Longnose Buoy near Foreness Point.
Faced with a strong westerly wind and a receding ebb tide, emergency coordinators feared the youths would be entirely unable to fight the elements to make headway back to the beach.
