It's been two yrs since we lost Sinead..

IRELAND lost one of its most gifted and beloved artists two years ago this weekend.

Music icon Sinead O'Connor died suddenly on July 26, 2023, at the age of 56.

She wrote and performed some of the most successful songs in Irish chart history and was a global star.

Musician and composer PADDY CULLIVAN says the best way we can honour her on her anniversary is to listen to her songs.

Paddy played with Sinead regularly when his band the Camembert Quartet were the house band on the Late Late Show.

He said: "We played with her every time she was on, for the 10 years we were here. We did Gay Byrne's TV special with Sinead, where we did six songs with her.

"She was very funny and brilliant in rehearsal and extremely professional about everything sounding exactly right and every note being in the right place.

"Her voice was incredible - completely unique - I was amazed every time she opened her mouth." Here, Paddy picks his favourites, in his Top Ten Sinead O'Connor tracks to play on her anniversary.

Paddy's top 10 fave O'Connor songs

10 NOTHING COMPARES 2 U The song the world knows Sinead for singing and that broke Sinead in America, leading to her second album I Do Not Want What I Haven't Got selling over seven million copies worldwide.

Written by Prince, it's incredible how Sinead made the song her own, notwithstanding the iconic video that is as memorable as her delivery. And those strings...

This is slow gospel and a powerful impact. She wasn't faking it, this was real emotion and the listener could tell. All emotion is in there - anger and sadness - and when she cries, we can all feel it. She said the tears came when she thought about her mother Marie, who died in a car accident in 1985.
