ANDY Farrell's Lions got over the line against the Brumbies but there was not much to write home about in a error-strewn performance in Canberra.

Aussie boss Joe Schmidt was seen grinning in the stands, and no wonder, his side might not be the lost cause in the Test series everyone thought they were.

Schmidt, the Australian head coach, was in the crowd alongside his assistant Laurie Fisher, and there was not much for them to lose sleep over.

The Aussies edged past Fiji 21-18 on Sunday when Schmidt said he did not have much confidence ahead of the Test series - well, this lot would have made him feel better about life.

Former Ireland boss Schmidt always has a plan and he will have one after this.
