U2 star Adam set to sell off 18 of his iconic bass guitars

- BY CATHAL RYAN

SWEETEST STRING

ALMOST 20 bass guitars owned by U2's rocker Adam Clayton are set to go under the hammer next month.

The musician has been seen with these cherished instruments during some of U2's most significant performances, including the band's sellout Vertigo tour in 2005.

Fans will have the chance to view the axes at an exclusive exhibition honouring the U2 bassist and his collection at The Museum of Style Icons in Newbridge, Co Kildare.

After the exhibition ends on November 9, the collection will travel to Nashville, where it will be sold at the music industry's most eagerly awaited memorabilia event of the year.

Clayton, 65, said: "I'm fortunate enough to have owned many wonderful instruments in my life and I have amassed a very personal collection of basses over the last 40 years.
