My phone doesn't stop pinging as the news was announced yesterday that skeletal remains were found in Donabate.

- BY CIARA O'LOUGHLIN

"You wouldn't think people living among you would be capable of something like that," one friend says, while another adds: "I haven't been able to go near there, makes me sick".

The case of little Daniel Aruebose has shocked the whole nation.

As a reporter, I often deal with horrific stories - and a lot of them do stick with me.

But this one is different, my eyes well up any time I read about the horrific case or imagine the final hours of this gorgeous boy's short life.

He lived just a five-minute walk from my childhood home, and was believed to be buried in marshy lands that I have strolled through for 28 years.

The seaside town of Donabate has become very sought after in recent years, as it is becoming exponentially more built up.

And it's not hard to see why. As a child, I grew up in an estate with dozens of other children to play with.
