ALEX MAGUIRE'S family connection to Evan Ferguson is through the Ireland striker’s older sister.

But the emotional Amgen Irish Open cut-maker hopes it will be enough for him to see Roma's exciting loan acquisition playing in person at the Stadio Olimpico.

Maguire is from Mornington in County Meath, just up the road from where the Ferguson family reside in Bettystown.

“I used to be in school with his sister Ellie and was a very good friend of hers,” smiled Maguire. “She used to be in my class, so we knew of him from a young age. It’s great to see he's doing well.
