TD claims air customers are 'being shafted'
A TD has urged the Transport Minister to speak to Ryanair chiefs about Irish customers being “shafted” and forced to pay to bring suitcases on board.
Barry Ward, Fine Gael's TD in Dun Laoghaire, also encouraged customers who have been hit in the pocket to complain to an ombudsman or other consumer protection bodies.
Social media has been flooded with complaints recently with people suggesting they have been charged €75 to bring bags deemed too big on board.
Some have suggested they are being charged for bags they were previously allowed to fly with.
Ryanair's policy stipulates that standard fare travellers are permitted one small bag on board that cannot exceed the dimensions of 40x30x25cm.
For those seeking to bring larger luggage, a cabin baggage upgrade extends the allowance to a bag up to 10kg and no greater than 55x40x20cm in size.
