League's not the competition it's cracked up to be
-
This is not Donegal's concern. Nor should it.
The other Division 1 sides out on April 6 in the Championship — the same day as Donegal and a week after the League finals — are Mayo and Galway.
Their position is nowhere near as precarious as Donegal, who face Derry. Mayo meet Sligo and Galway go to New York.
Logistically, it would be a huge ask for Galway, top of the table, to play a League final at Croke Park one weekend and head Stateside seven days later.
Kevin McStay will be happy enough with where Mayo are at. They have five points and look like they'll avoid a League final, although he wouldn't want to be relegated either.
It's a balancing act that would never be a thing if the scheduling was better, or a decision to axe the League finals had been taken.
