My cheating guy can't help but lie

MY partner had an accident at work.

His boss rang me, and I raced to the hospital like a thing possessed.

I arrived at his bedside - only to find another woman already there. She was plumping his pillows and mopping his brow.

I asked if she was a hospital volunteer and she hissed: “I’m his lover, sweetie.”

I nearly fell to the floor with shock. My partner screwed his eyes shut while I demanded to hear what was going on.

The woman - his long-term mistress it turns out - explained that she and he were in love and had been for two years.

All those times I thought he was working away, he was with her. In her bed. She was so cold, hard and gleeful that I felt like a stupid child.

I started crying. Eventually the ward nurse ordered one of us to leave and I left.
