Midwest set for boost of 2 new hospitals

THE Midwest is set to get two new hospitals and additional beds at University Hospital Limerick, as residents in the area have been screaming about overcrowding for years.

Health Minister Jennifer Carroll MacNeill announced yesterday that she has secured support from Cabinet to work on all three options given to her by the Health Information and Quality Authority. In September, HIQA offered three options to help relieve overcrowding in UHL, which provides the only 24-hour A&E for Limerick, Clare and north Tipperary.
