Intense training in 30c Heated Polar Chamber gets heart rate up

- MARK McCADDEN

"IT'LL be lots of fun", Saoirse promised, as she extended an invite to take part in the launch of the largest Heated Polar Chamber in Ireland.

Just minutes into a 90-minute high-intensity workout, conducted in a 30C room, the T-shirt and shorts were so drenched in sweat that your Fitter Happier correspondent looked like he had just emerged, fully clothed, from a shower.

The word 'fun' wasn't the first one to come to mind at that point.

But by the end of the workout, there were smiles all around as men and women of all ages and fitness levels completed a gruelling but rewarding workout.

The venue was FLYEfit in Swords, north Dublin, where last Saturday they launched the new heated workout space.

Not quite sure what to expect, we nervously approached the door to the darkened room and opened it to find an array of cardio machines.

SCREEN

There were rowers at the front, Ski Ergs to the side, and a couple of rows of concept and assault bikes in the middle of the floor.

To the left of the rowers was a giant screen, where everyone's heart rate would soon be broadcast to the entire class.
