DEISE’S COLOSSEUM A TEST FOR TREATY
Irish Daily Star
|May 03, 2025
WATERFORD are unbeaten in Munster Championship hurling at Walsh Park since the refurbished venue reopened again last year.
It's early days, but the Waterford city ground already appears to be the fillip the struggling Deise men needed as they begin to address a horrific Munster Round Robin record.
After last weekend’s 2-23 to 0-24 victory over All-Ireland champions Clare, Waterford coach and a former hurler of the year, Dan Shanahan declared:
“We were homeless but now we have our Colosseum back.”
Waterford have two wins and a draw in their three Munster Championship games to date at their revamped home venue, although the arrival of Limerick this evening will be their greatest test yet on home soil.
Priortothe upgrade works at Walsh Park, Waterford were forced onto the road in 2023 and 2018 with no home game for the Munster round robin.
They had Walsh Park in 2022 and 2019 but could only manage one win, losing the other three games.
In 2023, Waterford played their two ‘home’ games at Semple Stadium, losing to Limerick and Clare.
