Wiffen says diet changes will give him edge in pool this year

WENT SWIMMINGLY Wiffen in action at the 2024 Paris Olympics

DANIEL Wiffen reckons he will be 10% better when he returns to “top form” in the pool this year.

The Olympic gold medallist is almost back to his best after an appendix operation last summer and is using his recovery to work on certain aspects of his regime.

And one area that he feels will fuel a dramatic improvement in his performance is nutrition - and already he is seeing the benefits of changes to his diet.

Wiffen has spent some time at the Red Bull Athlete Performance Centre in Los Angeles and has dropped an astonishing 10kg in weight, without losing any of his explosive power in the water.

“The LA centre is very modern, very cool, and I really enjoyed it there,” he told Fitter Happier.

“I work with a nutritionist, Craig [Moore] from the LA centre, and I've been working with him for nine weeks.

“It’s been amazing.

“I've seen the difference in my training from working with him. It's night and day. I never worked with a nutritionist before and I think I kind of overlooked it.

“Even coming back from the Europeans, I just know the fuelling aspect of it was perfect, just from all the plans he has put down for me. It’s incredible.”
