COMMANDER IN SCHEFF
Irish Daily Star
|August 20, 2025
THERE are just three certainties in life these days - tax, death, and Scottie Scheffler successfully closing out victory on a Sunday evening.
Scheffler became the first golfer since Tiger Woods to win five times or more in successive seasons and, on current form, he’ virtually unbeatable.
That presents a huge challenge for the leading 30 players in the FedEx Cup standings who have qualified for this week's lucrative FedEx Cup finale, the Tour Championship at East Lake.
Their only saving grace is that the contrived handicap system for this tournament over past eight years has been scrapped, so defending champion, Scheffler, will start this Tour Championship along everyone else at level par.
Because the field is limited to 30 players, Scheffler’s odds are as low as 13/8 to win and it will take a special performance to lower his colours. The winner receives a cheque for €8,500,000 while the player who finishes in 30th and last position still receives a handsome payout of over €300,000.
East Lake is a long Par-70 course and, last year, Scheffler won the Tour Championship and the FedEx jackpot when he finished on 30 under par.
