Desmond blasts Rodgers as he sensationally quits Celtic with club legend Martin O'Neill returning

DERMOT DESMOND last night slammed Brendan Rodgers for turning Celtic TOXIC after the manager sensationally walked out.

The Hoops gaffer quit his post with immediate effect and will be succeeded by former Parkhead and Ireland boss Martin O'Neill, who makes a stunning comeback to management for the first time six years.

And majority shareholder Desmond launched a withering blast at the departing boss in an official club statement, claiming Rodgers had lost the trust of the club's board.

Desmond said: “I want to acknowledge Brendan's contribution across his two spells as manager, during which he helped deliver success that forms part of the club's modern history.
