Rory’s big screen bow might not have been to every critic’s liking but he’s got reason to feel far more at home in Kildare this week...

- BY MICHAEL SCULLY

RORY MCILROY was effectively told to stick to the day job at the K Club yesterday.

Luckily he’s good at it.

Mcllroy has a cameo part in Happy Gilmore 2, the Adam Sandler movie now on Netflix.

“My daughter watched that the other day and said ‘Rory’s such a bad actor’,” laughed Shane Lowry.

However the 36-year-old’s shifted to leading man as the favourite to win the Amgen Irish Open at the K Club.

McIlroy lifted the trophy for the first - and so far only - time when the tournament was last here in 2016.

“It's lovely to be back,” he said. “I've got some great memories of the K Club.

“I came here to watch the Ryder Cup in ‘06 with my dad and to win my only Irish Open here nine years ago.

“It's got a lot of great memories for me, and hopefully I can add to them this week.”

McIlroy even gets to slip into the green jacket he earned at Augusta for an afternoon Q and A with fans after his early morning first round.

“It’s absolutely amazing to be able to share that with people,” he smiled.
