Aras race fallen into garish Trump politics

THERE'S still a day to go to polling in the presidential election, but I think we can safely agree that it's already all over bar some inevitable shouting.

Aras race fallen into garish Trump politics

The bookies have started to pay out; the postmortems have commenced. The fat lady is tuning up to sing.

And the winner is...well, Donald Trump of course.

Yes I know he's not technically on the ballot but the most striking part of the whole contest has been every side accusing their rivals of going MAGA.

The race has boiled down to a slagging match about who is the most "Trumpian".

So by default that makes the orange manchild in the White House the “bigly” winner for dragging our democracy down to his primordial swamp level.

The rot started, as it often does, with the “Ludicrous” Conor McGregor mistaking the race as a Trumpian coronation for himself as High King of Ireland.

He figured he could pose for photos in the White House on St Patrick's Day then ring walk his way to the Aras, where he would get to rewrite any laws he chose just like his idol. And claim to be doing it all “in the name of the Irish people”.

TONE

Even though he failed to make the ballot, the tone had been set.
