Wet a right Kerry on

THE wettest counties in Ireland this year have been revealed to be Kerry, Cork and Mayo with Carlow and Dublin declared the driest.

Researchers analysed Met Eireann rainfall data and found that Galway and Sligo also received some of the highest rainfall values across the country.

As well as Carlow and Dublin, other counties such as Meath, Tipperary and Clare were assessed to be amongst the driest so far this year.

The researchers from Cork firm O'Flynn Medical warned that the wet conditions in combination with the warmer spring weather of recent days can cause "health issues at home".

Spokesperson Conor O'Flynn explained that a key concern is mould and respiratory issues.

Amongst the team's findings were a recording of 405.5 mm rainfall so far in Newport Furnace, Co Mayo, the place with the most rain this year to date.

They claimed that Kerry is the wettest county overall, closely followed by Cork and Mayo.
