Warning on fake fixed charge cop text scam

Irish Daily Mirror

GARDAI have warned the public of a new scam involving fraudsters impersonating officers via texts, which warn of unpaid fixed charge notices and late fees.

- BY DAIRE FITTON

Fixed charge notices can be issued for a range of motoring offences, including speeding and failing to display the correct tax disc.

While many of these notices stem from a direct interaction with gardai, automated speeding cameras mean that motorists can receive a fixed charge notice without ever speaking with a garda in person.

It's this uncertainty that scammers are taking advantage of with their latest scheme.
