Allen showed his bottle to win after almighty scare in opener
HOME hero Mark Allen survived an almighty scare to avoid crashing out at the first hurdle of the Northern Ireland Open last night.
The battling Antrim ace, 39, needed a decider to edge past Rob Milkins 4-3 in front of his army of fans at Belfast's Waterfront Hall.
Reigning English Open champion Allen is dreaming of completing a hat-trick of titles on home soil after lifting the Alex Higgins trophy in 2021 and 2022.
World No.8 Allen made back-to-back centuries to secure his spot in the last 32.
And the relieved former UK and Masters champion said: “I used up one of my lives there!
“T felt all right out there, which is rare for me in Belfast because usually I'm a bundle of nerves.
