RACING is in shock at the death of apprentice jockey Tommie Jakes, at just 19, at his family home near Newmarket in the early hours of yesterday morning.

The 5lb claimer (right), who gained his first victory aboard Jane Chapple-Hyam-trained Suzi's Connoisseur at Lingfield in 2023, rode 59 winners from 519 mounts.

His final success came on Fouroneohfever for boss George Boughey at Catterick 13 days ago.
