'Highest levels of evictions since Famine'

Irish Daily Mirror

March 20, 2026

LABOUR housing spokesperson Conor Sheehan has accused the Government of overseeing the “highest level of evictions since the Great Famine,” following new data showing a 41% rise in notices in Q4 2025.

The crisis gripping Ireland's rental sector has deepened with the latest figures from the Residential Tenancies Board (RTB) showing a surge in eviction notices over the past year.

The update revealed that landlords issued a staggering 5,207 Notices of Termination between October and December, an alarming jump compared to the same period in 2024.

The data confirms fears that thousands of renters are being forced out of their homes, with the vast majority of notices being issued so that the landlord can sell the property.
