HARRY WOOD settled a tight contest from the spot as Shelbourne joined forces with Galway United to remember the late Ollie Horgan.

- BY PAUL O'HEHIR

Club captains Conor McCormack and Mark Coyle laid a wreath at the centre circle before kickoff and Tolka Park stood for an impeccably observed minute’s silence.

It was an emotional return to action for Galway in their first game back since their assistant manager passed away on August 28.

“He was a fantastic character around the league,” said Jon Daly, who was appointed as the club's new No.2 when Horgan stepped down in recent weeks due to ill health.

“You listen to the stories about him and see the impact he had on players and people around the league.

“He was a fantastic character and is sadly missed, especially with the group here as he’s built strong bonds and relationships with the players and staff.”
