Hairdresser's shock as doc spots tumour

A HAIDRESSER was diagnosed with cancer after a doctor client noticed a “lump” in her armpit during a trim.

Shona Joyce, 22, had no symptoms when Dr Laura, told her to get it checked out, so she booked an appointment at the Glenview Clinic in Dublin in June last year.

After the initial consultation, medics there advised her to go to St James's Hospital in the city.

She had an ultra-sound and biopsy and ten weeks later, she was told the devastating news that she had nodular lymphocyte-predominant Hodgkin lymphoma - a cancer of the immune system.

She had surgery last August to have the lymph node removed followed by three months of intense chemo-therapy.

Shona, from Dublin, said: “When they told me I had cancer, it was a shock.
