JK backs comic as he hits out at cops for 'trans tweets' detention
FATHER Ted co-creator Graham Linehan hit out yesterday after he was arrested by armed cops over “joke” tweets about trans people.
The comedy writer told he was taken to a police station near Heathrow Airport - just days before his upcoming trial for alleged criminal damage and harassment without violence offences against a trans woman.
And he said he had to be treated by a nurse and then in hospital for stress while in custody.
Harry Potter writer JK Rowling was among those to speak out against the arrest saying it was “totalitarianism” and “deplorable”.
Rowling tweeted: “What the f**k has the UK become? This is totalitarianism. Utterly deplorable.”
The Met Police confirmed the 57-year-old was arrested on suspicion of inciting violence at around 1pm on Monday “in relation to posts on X”.
The first post called it a “violent, abusive act” for a trans-identified male to be in a female-only space. He suggested: “Make a scene, call the cops and if all else fails punch him in the balls.”
His second post from X appeared to be an aerial shot of a group of protesters in a town centre, and he called it “a photo you can smell”.
BAFFLEMENT
The third expressed his views, in which he said “I hate them”, referring to “misogynists and homophobes”, adding an expletive.
