'Gentleman' Barry bashed to death outside his own home

A garda secures the scene

Barry Daly, 44, was found dead outside a house at Rockview Terrace, Doneraile, Mallow, in north Co Cork, at around 3am yesterday.

Gardai suspect he got into a row with a number of individuals following a night out in the town - and that he was brutally assaulted and left for dead on the street.

Gardai suspect a blunt instrument was used in the horrific assault - and a murder investigation is set to commence.

Horrified locals made the discovery of Mr Daly's body on the street and gardai and emergency services attended the scene. Ultimately emergency services could do nothing for the man, who was declared dead at the scene. The body remained at the scene throughout the morning as the Garda Technical Bureau began a forensic examination.
