Everton's fury over #35m PSR claim by Clarets
Irish Daily Mirror
|June 11, 2026
EVERTON have been left ‘‘surprised and angered’’ after being ordered to pay Burnley more than #35million in compensation for Premier League profitability and sustainability (PSR) breaches.
The Blues were hit with a 10-point deduction in the 2023-24 campaign, later reduced to six points on appeal, for breaching PSR during the 2021-22 season.
The Clarets’ claim was that, had the deduction been handed out in the 2021-22 campaign, Everton would have gone down and Burnley would have stayed in the Premier League.
Everton, then under the ownership of Farhad Moshiri, finished four points above Burnley, who dropped into the Championship along with Watford and Norwich City. After they were sued by the Clarets, Everton have now been ordered to pay them compensation and interest of more than £35m.
