Call to up security ahead of break-ins spike over winter
HOMEOWNERS are being urged to tighten their security as new research reveals 9,103 burglaries have been recorded so far this year — with the most active period for break-ins just around the corner.
The study, conducted by Cork-based Sky Windows, highlights that from October to March, burglaries spike dramatically, making robust home security more important than ever.
According to Sky Windows’ analysis of Garda data, there were 52,442 burglary and related offences reported nationwide between the first quarter of 2020 and the second quarter of 2025.
INCIDENTS
The Dublin Metropolitan region was identified as the hardest hit, with 3,892 incidents already reported in 2025, while the Garda North Western region saw the lowest numbers, recording 1,347.
By comparison, the number of burglaries for all of 2024 stood at 9,744, suggesting we could be on track for a higher total in 2025.
