Daithi backing call for daily sun cream

The popular gaeilgeoir - who was diagnosed with skin cancer in 2023 - said prevention is better than cure.

RTE presenter Daithi said: "It was a scary experience, when I got the news, and I wouldn't wish that on anyone, the fear eats away at you."

Skin cancer is the most common cause of cancer in Ireland, despite our lack of sunshine. We have low rates of sun protection use, with men much more likely to go without it than women.

Daithi, 49, added: "Everyone needs to protect their skin, even the men. You need to be using sun cream every day, even on cloudy days when you think the sun can't reach you."

The Kerryman discovered a sun-damaged related lump, which turned out to be basal cell carcinoma, which was removed and his skin cancer successfully treated.
