MIDDLESBROUGH closed the gap on leaders COVENTRY to five points last night.

The Sky Blues had to settle for a point against 10-man Preston where they were denied a league victory at the 24th attempt at Deepdale.

The Sky Blues thought they had broken the hoodoo when a Jack Rudoni shot deflected in off Andrew Hughes for an own goal on 70 minutes. But the hosts struck six minutes later when Daniel Jebbison poked home from seven yards to secure a 1-1 draw.
