Costello on his 'thrilling' Colbert swan song with Beatles legend

ELVIS Costello has described reuniting with Paul McCartney for a rendition of the Beatles legend's song Hello, Goodbye on the last-ever episode of The Late Show With Stephen Colbert as "pretty thrilling".

- BY CASEY COOPER-FISKE

The CBS show was axed last year - soon after Colbert criticised parent company Paramount for its $16million settlement with US President Donald Trump over claims that news programme 60 Minutes deceptively edited a 2024 Kamala Harris interview.

Now 71-year-old Pump It Up hitmaker Costello has revealed that Colbert first approached him to use one of his "obscure" songs from 1975 for the Late Show's controversial swan song.

"[Colbert] called a song of mine from 1975 as the second-to-last song in the show, and when he told me I was like, 'Are you sure? Are you taking the p**s? That's, to say the least, obscure'" Costello explained of how he got the call.
