CELEBRATE FOR CERT
Irish Daily Mirror
|August 23, 2025
OVER 65,000 Leaving Cert students received their results yesterday, and dozens of brain boxes got full points.
Grades remain higher this year than in pre-pandemic years, before 2020, with almost 12% of higher-level grades awarded being Hls.
Ten students got maximum points of 625 at Christian Brothers College in Cork.
Five of the students achieved 7 H1 grades, while the other five students were awarded 6 H1s.
Principal David Lordon said: "We are very proud to congratulate our Leaving Cert Class of 2025 on exceptional results.
NERVOUS TIME
"The weeks leading up to today have doubtless been a nervous time for everyone." However, the results showed there were fewer top marks awarded overall.
The proportion of Hls and O1s fell this year by nearly 3% and over 2%. Specifically, in maths, the number of H1s dropped from almost 13% to 11%.
In geography, 48% of higher-level students achieved a H1, H2 or H3, compared with 55.6% last year.
This year's exams are the first time that they were sat after five years of artificially high scores due to arrangements that were put in place due to the Covid-19 pandemic from 2020.
This year's results have been raised but to a lesser extent as the exam system begins a gradual return to pre-pandemic levels.
