Barret's red key as Clare find a way
Irish Daily Mirror
|April 21, 2025
IT turns out that Christ doesn't have the monopoly on Easter Sunday resurrections.
Sizeable comebacks have been plentiful in football this year with the scoring system having been thrown out of sync.
But there was no phoney element to Clare's comeback here, albeit Shane Barrett was red carded in the 57th minute at a time when Cork led by nine points which had a significant impact.
By then, Cork seemed to have weathered a considerable Clare storm in the early stages of the second half.
Having trailed by 12 at the break, two goals within the first six minutes helped to cut it to five but Cork kept their cool and responded with a string of points to move 2-21 to 2-12 in front.
And then they lost their cool, in the shape of Barrett jabbing at David Reidy to leave referee Liam Gordon with no option but to dismiss him.
Still, there appeared to be no grave danger until the 69th minute when Peter Duggan, who Cork found troublesome throughout the second half, fired home a goal after holding off Eoin Downey and Sean O'Donoghue to bring the margin down to four.
