EUROVISION bosses are to engage in crunch talks over Israel's involvement in this year's song contest after mounting pressure from other countries.

- BY SANDRA MALLON

Committee chair Alan Kelly, Mr Bakhurst addressed questions over the participation of Israel.

Earlier this week, RTE's Director General Kevin Bakhurst asked the EBU for a meeting about Israel's inclusion in this year's song contest.

It is being represented by Yuval Raphael, a 24-year-old singer who survived the Hamas massacre at a music festival with the song New Day Will Rise.

Mr Bakhurst said on Wednesday:

"Notwithstanding the fact that the criterion for participating in the Eurovision Song Contest is membership of the European Broadcasting Union, RTE has nonetheless asked the EBU for a discussion on Israel's inclusion in the contest."
