And the winner is...

It's the 30th anniversary of the National Television Awards, so host Joel Dommett is planning something "bigger and better" than the song and dance he usually opens the show with.

However, one thing he won't be doing is landing on the roof of The O2 arena in London, Tom Cruise stunt-style. “I'm very scared of heights,” he admits. “So it would be a very different vibe. No one wants to start the NTAs with a man holding on to a wire and screaming for his life before presenting the first award. It would certainly be a different start, though.”

“It's going to be extra special,” Joel says of this year's entrance, without revealing just what he and the producers have planned. “It's the 30th year and it's nice to have that sort of bubble to put it in, something to hang it all on, and it does feel like we need to celebrate it. I'm really excited to hopefully make it feel like it's a really special occasion.”

And Joel is used to keeping secrets - he's the host of The Masked Singer, after all - but he does hint that his opening monologue will include some gentle roasting of the celebrities in the audience.

“I love a little tease of people, it's a lovely bit of jest. Stephen Mulhern is my favourite person to tease because he's just so wonderful, and he receives it so gratefully, and I just love him,” he says.
