Calls for zero tolerance policy
FIVE staff members are being assaulted on average every day in hospitals across the country, the latest data from the HSE reveals.
A total of 2,916 hospital employees were attacked in the 19-month period from January 1, 2024, to August 6.
Each incident was reported to the health authority and recorded.
There were 1,766 assaults in 2024 and 1,150 so far this year.
No extreme incidents occurred in which the lives of staff were in danger.
