DNA study finally gives 3 more 9/11 families closure

- BY CHRISTOPHER BUCKTIN US Editor

THREE more victims of the September 11 terror attacks have been identified through advanced DNA analysis, nearly a quarter of a century after the atrocity.

Officials in New York named two of the dead as Ryan Fitzgerald, 26, of Floral Park, New York, and Barbara Keating, 72, of Palm Springs, California. The third, an adult woman, has been identified but her family requested that her name be withheld.

The three new identifications bring the total number of confirmed victims to 1,653 out of the 2,753 people killed in New York in 2001.

It means that 1,100 of those people who perished in the collapse of the World Trade Centre still remain unidentified.

New York City Mayor Eric Adams said: “The pain of losing a loved one in the September 11 attacks echoes across the decades but with these three new identifications, we take a step forward in comforting the family members still aching from that day.
