The Kangaroos skipper on rugby league's pinnacle
Hull Daily Mail
|October 24, 2025
IN England, there's no doubt that representing your country on the international stage is the absolute pinnacle of a rugby league player's career.
-
Just take George Williams’ recent comments. “We can't wait for what's ahead,” he said. “It feels proper now; it feels elite. I remember watching the Ashes as a kid. It's not happened for a long time and as an Englishman, to be playing against the best in the world in your own country in front of your family and your friends, it is the pinnacle. It's something we're not taking for granted. It’s unbelievable.”
Yet over in Australia, that English nonnegotiable can take a different stance. However, for Kangaroos skipper Isaah Yeo, gearing up to lead Australia out in an Ashes Test opener at Wembley on Saturday, there's no doubt that the mighty Green and Gold jersey holds the most prestige - it's bigger than the club game and it's bigger than Origin.
