Rovers secure derby bragging rights after Cust handed red card
Hull Daily Mail
|April 19, 2025
Hull KR's recent dominance over Hull FC continued with a 28-14 triumph at the MKM Stadium, cementing their grip as both the city's front runners and the Super League leaders, although they were made to work for it by a resilient and spirited performance from John Cartwright's side.
-
Led by reigning Man of Steel Mikey Lewis - declared fit to play after a hamstring injury suffered on the same ground two weeks ago - Rovers had too much in the end, but that takes nothing away from Hull, who gave it a real go despite playing with a numerical disadvantage for over an hour.
The home side, backed by their biggest home crowd since 2009 with 21,000 in attendance, saw Cade Cust given his marching orders after a challenge on Rovers full-back Arthur Mourgue, and from then on in, it was an uphill battle.
Going for the ball after a Will Pryce kick, Cust made contact with Mourgue's head in the in-goal, and after slowed down video replays, there was only going to be one outcome: the Hull FC half seeing red and the Hull side firmly up against it.
Not that that takes anything away from Rovers, who rule the roost in these parts and are gunning for silverware on all fronts this season.
