THE festive season is a time of joy, celebration and giving, but for many households it also brings financial pressure, stress and the risk of falling into debt.

Hull City Council and partners are committed to helping Hull residents this winter.
The rising costs of food, energy and essentials means this year's celebrations may feel more difficult to manage. For those already juggling bills or relying on credit, it can be tempting to borrow more to keep up. That's why it's important to plan ahead, know your options and avoid risky formats of borrowing. Before spending, try to set a realistic festive budget.
Cllr Mike Ross, Leader of Hull City Council, said “We know the festive season can bring joy but also real financial strain for many people in Hull. We want to make sure residents have access to safe, trusted support, whether that's through the credit union, local advice services or emergency help for those who need it most.
"This is also a time when illegal lenders often take advantage of people in desperate situations. I would urge anyone considering borrowing money to avoid loan sharks at all costs and speak to a reputable service instead. Help is available and it's okay to ask for it. Nobody should face money worries alone”
