Mountie to the rescue! MARION MCMULLEN looks back at why Canadian cop drama Due South proved to be arresting viewing
ACTOR Paul Gross always got his man as Canadian mountie Benton Fraser in Due South. The comedy crime drama was broadcast in the UK for the first time 30 years ago on May 9, 1995, and the pilot saw Fraser heading from the Yukon to Chicago to track down his father’s murderer.
Later episodes often featured the line: “I first came to Chicago on the trail of my father’s killers and, for various reasons, remained here a liaison to the Canadian consulate.”
