Council approves next phase of Hull's green heating network

WORK on the next phase of the Hull District Heat Network has been approved by Hull City Council.

The project will provide the city with low carbon heat and is a key part of the council’s environmental commitments.

The project will utilise waste energy to generate heat, saving an estimated 110,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent over 40 years. A number of UK cities, such as London, Glasgow, and Manchester already have similar systems in place.

Work to construct the system is to be done in a number of phases, with work having been kicked off last Autumn. Phase 1A, which was coordinated with the closure of Drypool Bridge, saw pipes being laid at two sites in the city:
