LEIGH Leopards owner Derek Beaumont says rugby league must urgently improve its international calendar, warning that England are being set up to fail ahead of next year's World Cup.
England are not scheduled to play again before the 2026 tournament in Australia, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea, with no mid-season international break built into the Super League calendar.
Head coach Shaun Wane is currently undergoing a review by the RFL following England's 3-0 Ashes defeat on home soil, with a decision expected around Christmas, All Out Rugby League understands.
Beaumont believes Wane's limited preparation time was a major factor in England's performances and remains a significant concern going into a World Cup year. England had only off-feet sessions before their end-of-season camp.
