AND HALT 'GUT-WRENCHING' TAUNTS FROM SAINTS FANS!

- By DAVID CRAVEN

For Dave Hall, someone who won trophies with Hull KR like they were going out of fashion, the wait has simply gone on too long.

He played full-back the day the Robins won the Challenge Cup in 1980, seeing off their city rivals Hull in one of Wembley’s most famous affairs.

Hall still finds it baffling that it remains the only time the club has ever lifted the trophy.

But what he finds even more incredulous is that his beloved Rovers haven't won major silverware of any sort since he was part of their back-to-back league champions side in 1985.

Hall, who played more than 300 games for his hometown club, revealed: “I was behind some St Helens fans last week and they were singing all match about us not winning anything for 40 years. It was gut-wrenching. I can’t believe from that day we still haven't won one. By the time we'd got to the 1990s, a lot of that side I played in had gone. But we've still had chances. The Leigh Challenge Cup final, losing to that drop goal [in 2023], was devastating. And last year's Grand Final against Wigan, we were there but didn’t do it. But this year we are. We've got a great side. I am confident”

Obviously, that 1980 glory, when Hall played alongside some of the sport's true greats such as Roger Millward, Clive Sullivan and Brian Lockwood, is still feverishly talked about in East Hull.
