Suspension Bridge reopens with strict 3-tonne weight limit
Holyhead, Anglesey and Bangor Mail
|October 15, 2025
THE Menai Suspension Bridge has partially reopened to traffic.

The bridge was closed to all traffic last Saturday (October 4) after engineers highlighted the need to replace bolts on critical beams located beneath the structure.
This saw a three-tonne weight limit (allowing just cars and motorbikes) initially imposed last Friday but then a full closure the next day due to concerns over how this would be enforced.
It was the latest setback for the historic bridge (pictured), which first shut in October 2022 due to safety concerns.
But the bridge reopened on Friday to some traffic, for part of the day.
How it works: The Menai Suspension Bridge is partially reopen for cars, motorcyclists, cyclists, and pedestrians.
