Varun Dhawan carries this headless chicken of an action-thriller

If you think about it, all action films follow the same template—a wronged man/righteous cop gets into a tussle with someone powerful. His entire world is turned upside down, and he seeks revenge. The film ends when the antagonist is defeated or dies. The art, then, lies in making a film that stands out despite the predictability. Does Baby John manage that?

Varun Dhawan, who gets a massy introduction as 'VD', stars in his first full-scale actioner, an adaptation of Vijay's 2016 Tamil movie Theri. The story starts with Baby John (Dhawan) who is living with his young daughter Khushi (Zara Zyanna) in a quaint part of Kerala. He avoids getting into confrontations but one day, a cop calls him by his name Satya, at which point you can sense there's a back story.
