The Tamil Nadu and Punjab governments have moved the Supreme Court against their respective governors over alleged delay in clearing various bills approved by the assembly, saying such "unconstitutional" inactions have brought the entire administration to a grinding halt.

TN, Punjab move top court against guvs

The two governments also sought directions from the top court to the governors to approve all pending legislations forwarded by the assembly.

While the Tamil Nadu government moved the court against governor RN Ravi on Tuesday, its Punjab counterpart filed the petition against governor Banwarilal Purohit on Saturday.

There was no immediate reaction available from the two Raj Bhavans on the state governments' move at the time of filing this report. However, on Sunday, Purohit said he will examine all the bills on merit in the larger interest of the welfare of people of the state.

Both the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK)-led Tamil Nadu government and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)-led Punjab government have been locked in a standoff with their governors over various issues for quite some time, including the Raj Bhavan's pending assent to the legislations.
