Terrorist killed in Kupwara, Rajouri encounter continues

SRINAGAR: Security forces on Sunday killed a terrorist in Jammu and Kashmir's Kupwara and stepped up search operations in the region's Rajouri district as they intensified anti-terror operations in the Union Territory, officials aware of the matter said

According to a police spokesperson, a joint cordon and search operation was launched by the police and army in the Dakhen-Amrohi area of Kupwara after they received input about possible infiltration attempts.

"During the search operation, the movement of terrorists, trying to infiltrate to our side, was observed. They were challenged by the joint party, and one terrorist was neutralised," he said.

Taking advantage of the terrain, "two to three other terrorists" escaped back to the Pakistan side of the Line of Control (LoC), the spokesperson added. The forces also recovered arms and ammunition, including one AK rifle, one AK magazine, and 15 AK rounds, from the site of the gunfight, officials said.
