Rain, snow likely over NW India this week

A western disturbance is likely to cause light or moderate rain/snowfall over the Western Himalayan region between December 8 and 11, and light isolated rainfall over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh on Sunday and Monday, the IMD (India Meteorological Department) warned on Saturday.

Temperatures have been normal to above normal over northwest India so far. This is mainly because there is 78% rain deficiency over the region since October. The Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi subdivision has 97% rain deficiency; Uttarakhand 91%; Himachal Pradesh 98%; west and east Uttar Pradesh 99% and 92%, respectively. Meteorologists said western disturbances which bring winter rain and snow did not impact the Indian region so far this season. They are moving over northern latitudes above the Jamm
