No N-talks during attacks: Iran as Europe presses for dialogue

Iran said on Friday it would not discuss the future of its nuclear programme while under attack by Israel, as Europe tried to coax Tehran back into negotiations and the United States considers whether to get involved in the conflict.

Iran's foreign minister Abbas Araghchi held several hours of talks with the European Union's top diplomat and counterparts from the UK, France and Germany, which he said were "serious and respectful".

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump presided over a national security meeting about Iran with top aides at the White House, a US official said.

The official also said US special envoy Steve Witkoff is in regular contact with the Iranians, both directly and indirectly, with Qatar acting as an intermediator.

After the hours-long discussions between European leaders and Iran's Araghchi at a hotel in Geneva, British foreign secretary David Lammy said they were "keen to continue ongoing discussions and negotiations with Iran" and French foreign minister JeanNoel Barrot said it was "dangerous" to seek Iran leadership change from outside, alluding to Israel's aims of attacking the former's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
